When you sign up for a new Hosted Service account with Red Condor we will send you an email similar to the one below. This contains the basic information you will need to set up your account. In the following example we use yourdomain.com to represent your domain name.

Sample Email

From: support@my.redcondor.com
Sent: Monday, January 1, 2008  9:00 AM
To: you@yourdomain.com
Subject: New Domain Notification

Please read this important email and follow these 3 steps right away so you can maximize the benefits of our service and get the most value in blocking your spam immediately.

New Domain Confirmation

The domain yourdomain.com has been successfully configured. You should Login to the dashboard to administer this domain. The administrator links for this domain will be available on your Dashboard page.

The Dashboard is an important tool to customize your settings and view reports. We’ll have default options set up for you, but you may want to fine tune these selections for your organization. You can establish policies here for your entire domain.

What you need to do next:
  1. Configure Your DNS Mail Exchanger Settings

In order to make the service work, you need to update some information with your ISP. As a domain administrator, you are responsible for ensuring that the Mail Exchanger DNS records for yourdomain.com are configured as follows:

yourdomain.com. 600 IN MX 10 vmx.yourdomain.com.redcondor.net.]
yourdomain.com. 600 IN MX 20 amx.yourdomain.com.redcondor.net.]
yourdomain.com. 600 IN MX 50 bmx.yourdomain.com.redcondor.net.]
yourdomain.com. 600 IN MX 100 smx.yourdomain.com.redcondor.net.]

Your current DNS MX configuration for yourdomain.com is:

yourdomain.com. IN MX 10 mail. yourdomain.com

This means you must change your configuration for the Red Condor service to work properly. To make this change, you will need to contact your domain Name Service provider, or your ISP. We have looked up your domain, and your current name server is listed as [name server].  If this is too confusing, call Support at 877-240-5142 or email us at support@redcondor.com.

After filtering out your spam, we will send all your email to [mail. yourdomain.com].  If this is not the correct server name for your mail server(s), you’ll need to reconfigure your mail server address. This could be the wrong name if you used another hosted spam filtering service prior to activating Red Condor.  If you need help changing this, call or email Support.

If you change your mail server name(s) in the future, your email will stop flowing until you reconfigure the name in the Red Condor Dashboard.

  1. Configure Your Mail Server (OPTIONAL)

We can automatically determine if all your mailboxes are valid and make sure all your aliases are configured properly if you enable the SMTP verify command (VRFY), and disable "catch-all" mailbox forwarding.

If you skip this step, mailbox aliases (alternate email addresses for the same mailbox) will not be detected and must be configured in the Red Condor Dashboard manually.

Please note that VRFY is not supported by all mail servers or mail firewalls. The latest releases of Microsoft Exchange and the Cisco PIX firewall do not support VRFY.

  1. Configure Your Firewall Settings

Some domains may still receive spam sent directly to their mail servers by spammers bypassing the MX records that you adjusted in #1 above. If you are running your own mail server and all of its domains are being protected by Red Condor, we recommend blocking all SMTP (port 25) connections except for your internal PCs, and Red Condor’s IP addresses which are listed below.

Red Condor’s IP address ranges:

  • 65.119.39.192/27 (subnet netmask: 255.255.255.224)
  • 64.84.16.160/28 (subnet netmask: 255.255.255.240)
  • 65.91.53.0/24 (subnet netmask: 255.255.255.0)
  • 208.42.176.112/28 (subnet netmask: 255.255.255.240)
  • 208.80.200.0/21 (subnet mask: 255.255.248.0)

Note: If you don't have a firewall, some mail servers have firewall-like options built in. If the service isn’t working, you may need to unblock port 25 on your mail server specifically for the addresses above.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to play with your firewall rules, you may be able to configure your mail server to ignore messages that don't contain "redcondor.com" in the headers.

Phew – that’s it!

After following these 3 steps, you should be up and active with your new domain! You will have the option of receiving a Spam Digest every day. The Digest tells you what spam was Quarantined. If there was no Spam activity, you will not receive a Digest. You can automatically get your Digest sent to you daily, weekly, monthly or choose not to get one at all. You set up your Digest settings in your Dashboard.

We appreciate your business and want to thank you for signing up for Red Condor. Remember, if you need help during the sign up process, do not hesitate to contact us at Support at 877-240-5142 or email us at support@redcondor.com.
